    A Bit About Me:

I’m Wendy, founder of Hummingbird Therapy Services. Since qualifying in 2014, I’ve worked across inpatient and community settings, developing a deep specialism in rehabilitation, ageing, and disability.

In 2023, I entered private practice and I haven’t looked back. Private work reignited my passion, giving me the freedom to provide truly person-centred care without the limitations of overstretched systems. I offer in-depth, tailored assessments and interventions designed around you.

I bring dedication, clinical expertise, and a human touch. Every client I work with inspires me and I’m here to help you rediscover what’s possible.

So here I am, the proud owner of Hummingbird Therapy Services, the Occupational Therapy service that helps you fly.

    Why Hummingbird?

I often get asked why hummingbird?

The hummingbird symbolises resilience, healing, and joy. Though rare in the UK, it represents something magical, just like the transformation we see in our clients. At Hummingbird Therapy Services, we help people rediscover what they’re capable of.

As an Occupational Therapist we love what we do and experience a great amount of joy seeing people achieve their goals and overcome their difficulties. The hummingbird reflects the healing our clients encounter engaging in the therapeutic process and the resilience and determination they possess to drive them on their road to recovery.

Support for Care Homes in the Peak District: Championing Postural Care for People with Dementia

At the heart of Hummingbird Therapy Services is a deep commitment to improving quality of life for individuals with dementia especially those nearing the final stages of life, who are too often overlooked. With years of experience in the NHS, I’ve witnessed the painful consequences of inadequate postural care, including irreversible contractures caused by conditions such as paratonia. These progressive deformities are preventable with the right support, knowledge, and equipment.

I’m now offering free specialist postural care consultations and discounted services to community NHS staff and care homes across the Peak District National Park. This includes comprehensive assessment, hands-on management plans, staff training, and support in sourcing suitable equipment.

While the recommended seating and sleep systems are not currently funded by my service, I am working on developing a loan service for specialist seating for care homes to enable family members and care managers to hire specialist seating and sleep systems at an affordable cost. This willinclude regular reviews to ensure the equipment continues to meet the residents needs. Until this is live, I will workclosely with you to guide funding applications or coordinate support through families or local authorities.

Let’s change the standard of care for those living with dementia — one thoughtful position, one supported resident, at a time.

Practical support that complements your home

At Hummingbird Therapy Services, we believe that functional adaptations should enhance your home, not compromise its appearance. We will support you to source adaptations that complement the style of your home whilst also being functional. We are currently working on developing a partnershipwith innovative manufacturers like Invisible Creations to offer stylish grab rails that blend seamlessly with your home environment.

An experienced Occupational Therapist will carry out a detailed assessment to identify where support is needed. Our skilled Technician can fit the rails professionally and discreetly. Whether you’re planning for the future or need immediate support, we help you create a home that’s both safe and beautiful.
